Nightmares
The marks on your body make me wonder,
what pain has been beaten upon you?
Have you witnessed a tragedy so gruesome you drowned?
Did you battle the darkness and it broke you down?
Oh darling what pain have you lived through to tell?
By looking at your smile I would never know that you once fell.
I have loved your soul for oh so long,
the flowers you gave me, thorns and all.
Your eyes lay still now, your heart beating slow.
You're calm in my arms, you say your darkness left home.
So how come you still have nightmares in your sleep?
A hesitation when I ask for your heart to keep?
Years have passed and I still wonder why,
your eyes glaze over when you look at the sky.
I know I can wake you from this wearying slumber.
The endless moments you enjoyed, if only you'd remember.
Will you love me if I kiss your lips while you cry?
I could take care of you if you'd only let me try.
