Cardboard Nation MAG
we stand
a nation made of cardboard people
cut out
each and every day
and i, a simple, cardboard girl
wondering ...
i can't help if i
feel animosity toward my maker
they say god made me
but we all know truth
an' we can believe anything they want us to
unless we want to rise up together
strong
we're swimming around in a little glass jar
just like tadpoles
blind
furiously searching for a way out
(these tadpoles we are
did i mention they're made of cardboard?)
i hear:
look and don't see color
followed by confusion
next it's look and don't see gender
apparently
and i awaiting an hour when they say
respect
each color
same to
each gender
(if love seems too extreme)
instead of shaping us blind
into this cardboard nation
where you gotta look both ways before you
breathe
it's gettin' a little hot in here
and wait one day
'cause this cardboard nation is gonna burn right down!
