We all know the dream of having your favorite book never end and just continue on forever. Sadly in 2007 the last of a great series had come out with its last book. This series was Harry Potter. Luckily the fanatics had the movies carry on for a couple more years but it wasn’t the same of having a big book in your lap and venturing into the far off world of Harry Potter as you read. Yet there would be one more expansion that we didn’t quite know of until now. That would be Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Now being the huge Harry Potter fan I am, I thought I should give an honest review of the Harry Potter book. This book had left me with some very mixed feelings so in this review I will be going over some interesting things about the book, some dislikes I had, some things I had loved about it, and my final opinion of this book.

This book had some very interesting things within it’s pages. There was seeing all the different points of view instead of it being in more of a third person way. Another interesting thing about this book was that it did a nice job of tying relationships from the original generation of Harry Potter to the next generation that is more of a focus in this book. Like how of course the Weasleys and the Potters are close and end up being family because Ginny and Harry got married like it had mentioned in the epilogue of the Deathly Hallows. So in that way there was a nice expansion in the Harry Potter world.

With the interesting things there were also some not so good things in this book. If you were not aware this wasn’t really a book by J. K. Rowling it was a script made based off the books from J. K. Rowling so it wasn’t really her work and it wasn’t set up like a book it was set up like a script which made it harder to follow and not as smooth and descriptive as the Harry Potter books. Plus this book was very repetitive and the ideas kind of just kept coming at you and bopping you on the nose even though you got it the first time. Being that this book came a long time after the rest of the Harry Potter books one way to keep the magical world alive was through fanfiction. For those who don’t know fanfiction is fiction written by fans of a certain subject. Being that I’m quite the Harry Potter nerd I had looked into a couple and found one that had the same idea as this book but I think was better written and had a better flow to it.

Luckily there are some things I absolutely loved about this book. One of those things was a certain character named Scorpius Malfoy. Now when the name Malfoy is mentioned something people think about are Slytherin, evil, and mean. What I love about Scorpius is that he destroys those stereotypes and is the exact opposite of what everyone expects out of him. He is just a character that I think everyone can connect to in some way. Another one of my favorite things about this book is the bromance between a Malfoy and a Potter. In the series Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy were complete opposites and ended up being enemies throughout their school years. Yet Scorpius and Albus become best friends to the dislike of their dads which is sweet because it’s a cute forbidden friendship. As you may know there are certain traits that put you into houses at Hogwarts and there can be judgement if you are put in one house versus the other because some houses are rivals. Gryffindor and Slytherin are the two biggest rival houses and there are some families there are blood lines that stay in a particular house like Malfoy to Slytherin and Potter to Gryffindor. In this book they changed they way most people think because Scorpius was sorted into Slytherin, which was no surprise. Yet Albus Potter, who had become good friends with Scorpius on the train, had a choice to be with his siblings in Gryffindor or his friend in Slytherin and to most surprise he pick Slytherin. Just so his friend wouldn’t be alone he earned some harsh feelings from his family in return but he decided it was the right choice for him.

My final opinion on the book is that it was a nice continuation of the characters and their story lines to give waiting readers what they were searching for. The expansion of possibilities to the Harry Potter world was fantastic as was the creativity used in this book. Yet it definitely wasn’t one of my top favorite books of all time and was very repetitive. I would recommend reading it though because it wasn’t a terrible book itself, the creativity was great and so was the continuation of everything. So read it if you are looking for something interesting and new. I think the biggest part of me not liking it as much as I did is that I had read something similar years before so it was kind of a let down only because I had such high expectations but it was a very good book.

So there were some things that drew my interests, some of my dislikes, my loves, and my final opinion of the book is that it was a pretty good book. It wasn’t one of my all time favorite books but I definitely would recommend giving it a read, especially if you are one of the Potterheads who have been waiting years for something to expand the Harry Potter world. I hope in the future if they end up writing a sequel that there is more involvement from J. K. Rowling. If they do make a sequel I will definitely be waiting to buy and read it.
