Wait For Me by An Na
Mina is an Asian teenager with a mother who expects the world from her. She has a younger sister named Suna who is partially deaf --when she is using her hearing aid -- and she is always scolded by her mother for reasons she doesn't understand and are out of her control. Their mother seems to be ashamed of Suna and is always comparing her to her other 'perfect' daughter, Mina. Mina feels the pressure of keeping her mother happy, so she constantly lies about her grades and school with the help of Jonathan, Mina´s long time more-than-a-friend who is her indirect aibi when her mother doubts one of her lies. The built up lies end up hurting her more than they help her. She then meets someone and they help her through her confusion about her expectations for herself and those of her mother. She is then at a crossroad; does she want to stay with her family and follow her mother´s dreams for her (while disregarding her own) or does she want to leave her family behind and do what she wants with her life? Well, you'll have to read the book to find out!

Mina´s main dilemma is deciding what she wants to pursue in her life. She needs to figure out how to break away from her mother´s expectations and set her own. The author of this book is Korean, and Mina and her family are as well. Both grew up in the United States and I believe Mina and her struggles may be based on struggles the author has experienced in her own life. It shows how she may have dealt with education and pleasing everyone, as well as how she may feel about these high standards for youth who really have no clue what direction they want to take their lives in.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but there is one aspect about the story that I would have altered; I would have focused on the sisterly-bond-that was vaguely present throughout the story- rather than go for the cliché romance route. I would definitely recommend this book to readers like myself, people who enjoy reading something that they can relate to their own life. This book is relatable within the theme of  ¨I have no idea what I want to do with my life.¨ and it also contains a very diverse set of relationships between the different characters.
