Must-Read For All Middle School Students
A Child Called 'It'

A Child Called 'It' is an autobiography written by Dave Pelzer. The story takes place in Daly City, California, with his three siblings, mother, and father. Throughout the story, Pelzer's family also visits Chinatown, San Francisco, and the Russian River.
A Child Called 'It' is a story about Dave Pelzer's early childhood, and his struggles with life. Dave's family started out pretty ordinary, and the often took long trips to Chinatown, and the Russian River. Then one day, things changed forever. Dave's mother started drinking, and beating him. She became a child's worst nightmare. Eventually, he wasn't just being beaten. She starved him as well. For Dave, it was time for a change of scenery.
Overall, this book was great. Not only would I recommend the book, but the author as well. I believe it is a must read book. There is also a follow up called "the Lost Boy" that I will eventually read.
This story would benefit any middle school child. At this age, we all want more and fail to enjoy what we have. This story really changed me. I learned to cherish the little things, because somewhere in the world there is a child my age who can't have what I do.
