Afternoon On the Lake
You rinse your feet and step into the boat;
The roaring beast tethered dockside by rope
Sit down up front while the beast sings one note
Look to the water, waves foam just like soap
The beast starts to move, spluttering slightly
We move farther out, speed up as we go
If Dad knew, he would not take it lightly
You cannot worry, he will never know
There’s no way, with your eyes forced closed!
The wind is so strong, the beast is so loud
This day is perfect—it’s like it was posed
Turn your eyes to the sky, fix them on a cloud
Water droplets hit you, a wave rolls under
Pray it will not end…then you hear thunder.
