How blurred the dance of Hummingbird's wild wings
How blurred the dance of Hummingbird's wild wings
of twinkling teal and glittered golden green.
Deceptive iridescence fit for kings
and queens. I cannot trust what I have seen.
How sweet the taste of slippery lily's tears
Drip drop, drip drops, upon the tip of tongue.
As brids so fear, the sweetness disappears,
like rain, before the morning bells have rung.
At dawn, amidst the nearly faded star,
a parting cloud makes way for one clear voice.
Like Hummingbird's wild wings, it soars. Fly far,
my dear, Forever let your song rejoice.
With life and light, this heart so proudly sings
for love, for peace. For hope, such music brings.

As I'm nearing the end of high school, I've been reflecting on my experiences in music. After unexpectedly signing up for choir in freshmen year, I ended up staying four years, developing lasting friendships and, of course, a deep love for vocal music. Singing has made an immense impact on the way I interact with the world, and I decided to dedicate this sonnet to the world of song. In the beginning of the sonnet, we see the downsides of many of our senses: sight can be deceiving, and taste temporary. However, sound, or song, is something that stays forever in our hearts. May your heart fly far and wide as the Hummingbird's!
