Dragon
There lived a dragon in a lonely land,
An endless stretch of nothing surrounded his dwelling,
For as far as his eyes could see,
There was no winter, there was no spring,
There was no fall, and there wasn’t really a summer,
Only a warm sun, clear skies, and an endless stretch of nothing.
It never rained, it never snowed, it was never
Foggy, cloudy, nor windy, just sunny and clear and nothing.
He wasn’t lonely, despite living alone,
He was not sad, angry, frustrated, anxious, nor terrified,
But joyful and content with his lonely land.
This dragon liked to lie in the sun for hours on end,
Warming his body, watching his scales reflect the sun.
He would fly up high, till he could go no higher,
Then he would fly out far, but never reached the end
Of his lonely land, and he would return home.
He liked to gaze at the stars and find their hidden pictures,
He liked to watch the moon as it went through its phases.
He liked to imagine things – other lands, heroic quests,
Dangerous adventures, noble deeds, bravery, courage,
sometimes love, and he was content to just imagine.
He liked to sing, to pour out his soul in verse, and listen
To the sound travel through the air.
He liked to dance, feel his body moving –
Gracefully swooping, twirling, lifting, gliding…
A dragon lived in a lonely land – nothing
As far as his eyes could see, and farther.
He was happy with his lonely land, happy being alone,
Happy with the sun, the stars, the moon,
With flying, singing dancing, imagining.
Why would you want to bother him?
Or make him change his ways?
