Fallen flakes of crystal
cracked lightly under his heavy footsteps,
muffled noises all he could hear
under the cold blanket.
A pure-white night sky
cried joyful frozen tears
that pirouetted gracefully across the sky.
A large sliver of snow
landed on his cheek,
the sudden cold singeing him.
An old childish feeling
washed over him.
He held his tongue out,
waiting for that delicious, tasteless
drop of snow.
When it descended carelessly
onto his tongue
like the leaves tumbling
from the maple trees in Autumn,
the cold of it warmed his insides,
and a soft smile slipped
onto his hard face,
and a gentle chuckle slipped
out his rough lips.
