I fight for their entertainment
For their amusement and pleasure
My blood soaked raiment,
Is my only treasure
I live by the whip
As I shall die by the blade
Provided with one simple tip;
To "Never be afraid."
We vowed to honor this lutus,
To honor this House.
That nothing would ever uproot us
And that our strength never douse
Rome sees me a god
When it is blood that they crave
But they praise a fraud,
For I am merely a slave
Yet I owe them my life
For it was by their word
That I was spared from the knife
To continue to wield sword
Bested in battle,
I knelt with with dagger on my throat
I heard the beasts as they rattled
Their heavy chain coats
I awaited my death
With a defeated pant
Trying to catch my breath
Twhen I heard the chant
"Live! Live! Spare the warrior!"
I admit, I was relieved when I heard it
Then with blood, as they got blurry more,
My eyes awaited the verdict
They found the emperor
His emotions unstirred
And I gave a soft, thankful whimper, for
His thumb pointed upward
"It's ironic," I thought
As my body went numb
"Twas with steel which we fought,
But I was spared by a thumb."
I arose to applause
The fortunate defeated
I cared not for their cause
And their praise, again, I greeted
Yet this life of violence,
Tis not desired
But the feeling of triumph
Keeps taking me higher
Behind this helm
I dream of my freedom
To break out of this realm,
Find my Garden of Eden
Yet day by day,
More blood do I shed
More beasts I slay,
More men left dead
Though the patrons, they cheer
And the emperor seems pleased
Only death do I hear
When I retire to grieve
I wash the blood and the tears
Release the regret and the sorrow
“Only 2 more years…”
As I prepared for the morrow
