Far, far away
On a piece of paper she wrote her hopes and dreams.
She wrote with a borrowed pen and a small smile on her face.
She wrote about how she would leave someday for a college
Somewhere far, far away
Where the ghosts of her past won’t follow her
Where she could be free.
She wrote about her wonderful life,
In some place far, far away
How she would marry the right person,
Who she would love,
And trust,
And laugh with,
And who would love her back and care for her.
She wrote about the family they would have,
A large family,
She wouldn’t want her children to feel as lonely as she often did,
She wrote about their home, a city maybe,
With different faces passing by the window every day.
Or perhaps a town, with the leaves brushing up against the back door,
She wouldn’t mind, as long as it was
Somewhere far, far away.
She wrote it all and when she finished she smiled
But then she frowned and her eyes burned,
Because deep down she knew that,
No matter how hard she dreamed,
It would never happen.
Because deep down she knew,
She was too afraid to let it.
