A Hope Lost
I hung in my dungeon cell,
Chained by my flaws,
Drowning in self shame,
Assuring myself I wasn’t the only one,
When they came.
They whispered in my ears about a future
Filled with dreamy peace,
Acceptance,
Even perfection.
They painted pictures of my life
Without the chains,
So vivid, I was convinced that I had been freed.
They sang songs
About the beautiful world I could create
And like sirens,
Lured me closer to the depths.
I watched them,
With my child-like eyes
And pledged my heart
To live in their world.
But when they beckoned me to follow,
My chains pulled me back.
Back to the deadly silence
And heavy dread
That coats the walls like paint.
The beautiful dream was gone,
And all that was left was the painful memory of a hope lost.
