And One Day MAG
Kick.
You feel the pounding of tiny toes
Hear a vivacious heart beating for the
first time.
But what if this kicking you feel
Is really the hand of a higher power?
Knitting me together
In this bed of security
A shelter from the unknown
And this life inside of you
Now known by so few
Will soon burst into the world
And be known by many, with each
hair counted
Like a star forming in a panel of black
Then shining for all to see.
Seems Impossible? Unfathomable?
One day, not too long from now,
I’ll lay in your arms for the first time
Then you’ll blink
And I’ll be a year old.
I’ll toddle down the hall with uneasy steps
And I’ll whisper a sweet, simple word
into your ear
In time I’ll hit all the milestones
Preschool, kindergarten, middle school,
high school, graduation
Then I’ll set foot on an unknown thoroughfare
With a piece of home always inside
Time passes, and one day, I’ll own the sky.
For now, I breathe in secrecy within
my mother, loving her. Impossible?
Unfathomable?
Kick.
Kick!
Kick . . .
