Out of my eye one falls, a single drop, a tear.
The wind blows, and the leaves rattle on the trees.
I knew I would lose you eventually, that was my fear.
My hair whips my cheek, billowing in the brisk breeze.
A sparrow flies through the air,
I wish that were me up in the sky, free, free to fly,
Instead I’m chained down to the earth, being forced to care.
You said you’d always be here, that was a lie.
I want to forget, lose myself in flight.
Trying to dull the pain,
I lay back and look up at the sky, shielding my eyes from the light, so bright,
I flip onto my stomach attempting to block mental images, but my efforts are in vain,
I want to break the bonds that are holding me back,
Forget you and all the wounds you’ve afflicted on me, put my life back on track.
