day six
flashing lights behind my eyes
fireflies can’t criticise
no vein strewn wings behind my back
just Elvin feet stepping track to track
from tie to tie I make my flight
each sharp demand brings boiling fright
the whispers flicker between my ears
haunting tales stretching for years
what makes me whole, completely insane
is not the freezing, singing rain
but pressure pounding through my bones
tripsy as cracked tracks on gramophones
stringy hair, arms outstretched
i wish for flight, or better yet
to swim through the stratosphere
all my thoughts finally lighter than air.
