American Sunset
I feel the grass sway against my calves
The aroma of dried leaves fills my nostrils
To my people
It is the smell of freedom
I hear the murmuring of the brook beside me
The water below
Is clear
Pure
Untainted
But there for the taking
I feel the sun beat down on my dark skin
Warming me
Willing the plants to grow
The earth to rise up around me
And then
In front of me
I see a figure
His skin is pallid
Ashen
White
But he is smiling
A crooked-tooth smile
He beckons me
I reached my hand out to the white man
And with open eyes
I watch as the world ends
