friend[ly]
i have a very certain group of friends
the ones i trust were picked deliberately
the ones i share my deepest secrets with
the ones i know will not abandon me
but from these friends, a second subset grows
the people i can say “good morning” to
i smile at them; the friendliness is real
still, there are things i can’t trust them to do
the difference between ‘friendliness’ and ‘friend’
is one so subtle and so delicate
some toe the line between one and the next
but i have smiles for all, secrets for few
