If You Could Call These Roots
If I was as tall as an old tree;
And I hope to god to someday be.
I would watch the world from way up high;
Send a greeting to a chirping passerby.
If I was as wise as an old tree;
And I hope to god to someday be.
I'd recite stories with the rustling of my leaves.
I would tell of saints, sinners, lovers and thieves.
If I was as free as an old tree;
And by god, I hope to someday be.
I'd drift in and out of life with ease.
Learning of all of the worlds mysteries
My roots would run deep and wrap around this crazy world;
My stems would let go; and things would begin to unfurl
I would hug the soil in a beautiful embrace.
My thoughts would slowly leave this imaginary place.
Slowly floating down to the forest floor;
I'd be swept by the wind through your front door.
Open wide; Trampled in by the shuffle of your child's small boots;
Forever reminiscing of the day I once had grounded roots.
