it's not always just feeling sad
it's not always an outcast shattering at the wrists
it's not always a family broken by a death that happened too soon

sometimes
it's when you can hardly
bring yourself to wake up in the morning
because just being alive is exhausting

sometimes
it's not talking to anyone for weeks
because seeing them happy just
hurts too much

sometimes
it's feeling horrible for no reason
and trying to think of a reason
only makes you feel worse

sometimes
it's when you listen
to a song on repeat
because those are the only words
that make sense

sometimes
it's feeling happy
but once the moment's over
it's immediately
destroyed

sometimes
it's that feeling that
you're spiraling out of control
and you're grabbing blindly for a branch that
isn't there

sometimes
it's when you look in the mirror
and you see nothing
because yes, you’re alive
but you’re not living,
not anymore

I like the metaphor "you're grabbing blindly for a branch that isn't there"
