Essentiality
Big brothers are essential; fathers are not
I made it this far without you in case you forgot
When you learned I wasn't meek and mild
You ostracized your youngest female child
As I got older, my defiance rose and I grew bold
The only one not afraid to speak my mind
Yes, afraid, but determined to push fear behind
As long as I'm alive, you best
Treat my mother right
Because I stand for the right, as I've seen
Fathers love their wives and treat them like queens
You are no hero to me, no not when
My big brother taught me that I was beautiful
Because you caused my self-esteem to fluctuate
And die
No, not when he was both father and brother, he
Sat me down and taught me everything I needed to know
About life, about boys, about everything under the rainbow
And when he listens while I cry
And feels my pain inside,
I know you'll never be a hero in my eyes
No, not when you fed me your lies
I don't hate you- it's your actions I despise
No, I didn't have a choice
But, now I raise my voice to say
I'm glad I don't have a father
Because
I'd rather have a big brother
Any day
