War
If all the right reasons are adequate
what he leaves behind is no longer part of it.
He will embrace his weapon as if it were his love
and adopt new brothers to make him feel like that is enough,
to push him through this overdue boyhood fantasy,
that has turned into a sandy insanity.
War is not for the weak.
War is not for the strong.
War is a necessary evil.
Necessary to help people move on.
She knows he won’t be coming.
Yet another tour she will spend alone.
Why? She asks herself. Why do I wait?
I’m at home crying while he’s tempting fate.
I could be a normal woman, maybe a normal wife.
Instead I take my chances of living a widow’s life.
War is not for the weak.
War is not for the strong.
War is a necessary evil.
That keeps people from moving on.
