Sisters (to Chinwe)
Our expectations for who they might
or could become enlighten our minds
and weaken our pride.
They are the reason we love and cry.
Making the decisions that we could not.
Asking the questions we couldn’t
ask ourselves.
Never fully understanding who we
are despite our attempts.
If we weren’t related who is to
say we would be associated?
Who is to sat they’d be there
for us?
A reason to go on, that we
call our own.
Blessed with love beyond betrayal-
unless they’re caught with in their
own web of selfishness.
We fight and live for them, as if
we can’t fight for our own lives.
And still they won’t exceed our
expectations.
sisters.
