Barren Walls
Take down my new world map.
Pack that frayed old Yankees cap.
Off come the posters and the tape,
That canvas that had begun to shape,
The pictures and the memories,
The hopes, the dreams, the used-to-be’s,
All torn down and tossed into
A big old pile of what I knew
And what I learned these past years.
A piece of me drenched in tears
Will stay behind as I move ahead.
This old life I will now shed
As I go on to bigger skies
Forgetting the pain, counting my tries.
Right now, right here, my boundaries will fall
And all that will be left behind are these four barren walls.
