A Bright Red Reminder

Looking out through the window in the

Brick-covered walls; I can only focus on

The bright red cardinal perched on a branch,

And not of the math equations the teacher is
talking about.

The little magnificent bird reminds me of

Someone who used to love them. The old

Woman that I knew and got to know well,

Used to adore these birds. Looking at the

Cardinal, for the first time in a while,

Reminded me of her and the joy she brought.

But it also brought sadness, knowing that I

Won’t be able to hear her voice and her

Laughter again.

The crimson red bird that I am looking

At through the window reminds me of

The time I spent with her. I long for days

Like the ones I had with her. I can’t

Even remember most of them, but

The ones I can, I cherish.

While I stare at the vermilion bird; I

Am reminded of the cookie tin I

Received from her. On it sat a red

Cardinal like the one before me. Though,

The one I’m looking at seems to be

More curious than the one on the

Tin. Like the bird is a detective of

Everything that moves.

The bird that is settled on the grand

Tree seemed to be startled by something,

It was a hawk that landed not far. Even

Though the hawk wasn’t at all interested

In the cardinal, the cardinal got scared and

Flew off.

When it left it reminded me of

The day when she did the same. It was Easter

My favorite holiday and every year after the

Thought plagues my memories. Though

I don’t only think of it as a sad, painful

Day.

Now when I look at Easter it reminds me of

Her and the joy she brought. Easter is still

My favorite holiday; I just now have a different

Perspective on the day.

Like the copper bird, I look at the holiday

With curiosity and remembrance. She has

Completely changed how I saw the holiday;

Once it was just a fun holiday with the

Cousins, and now it is not only a fun day, but

A day of remembrance.

I am forever grateful for the bright red

Cardinals’ appearance through the window

And the reminder of the old woman and

My amazing memories with her. Now, every

Cardinal I pass. I think of her.
