Cold As Ice
The tears trail numbly
Across deadened cheeks,
And linger anxiously on my soft jaw line,
Before plummeting into oblivion
And striking my pillow.
With the force of a freight train,
A door slams in my heart
To the notion that love might be
All that I’d hoped for,
And more.
I can still hear your voice
As we say our goodbyes,
Your rejection like some horrible,
Ear splitting broken record
That keeps playing in my mind.
My spirit is crushed
By the weight of the knowledge
That you’re gone for good,
And that I’m all alone,
With no human comfort in sight.
So I suffer in silence,
And watch the shadows on the wall;
They are my companions now,
As I slowly drift off to sleep,
Cold as ice in a sea of misery.
