iPhone of Freedom
The vibration buzzing and alarming bell chimes to wake me up early in the morning. A bright light flashes in my eyes as I check to see if there is anything new on social media. The morning medicine needed to get me through my day sits next to me on my pillow as I gain motivation to get out of bed. As I leave my bed, I see a notification for Schoology seeing I have a late assignment. My iPhone lurks behind every action when I awaken to motivate me through my day.
An iPhone. The smooth glass fixture on the back of the phone covered in a midnight blue silicone phone case leads to an open door full of freedom. The collection of memories held within the gallery reminds me of the joy of my past as I scroll through them. The never-ending videos on TikTok entertain for hours on end with the constant feeling of joy and amusement. I can open the Netflix app and watch countless shows and movies. Stranger Things to Spongebob Squarepants to Cars. I can binge shows anytime anywhere with the power of wifi.
My dog practically lives in my phone as I have hundreds of pictures scattered through my camera roll. Her wrinkled face compliments her chubby figure. Her small, black ears fly as she runs through the grass, chasing birds and butterflies. As I look through photos, her big eyes bulging out of her face could startle anyone not expecting to see a pug. Her snorts fill people's ears with loud, hoarse noise as she struggles to breathe. When she eats her food, the loud chomping
echoes throughout the house. Sage, the pug, will forever be on my phone, lingering throughout my camera and life.
Within the text messages, a path of communication leads me to anyone in the world with a combination of ten simple numbers. On the phone, I can feel the pleasant feeling of hearing a loved one’s voice from thousands of miles away. I can text anyone in a couple of seconds no matter what the circumstances are. The vibration of my phone as I receive a message from my mother fills my pant pockets with tingles. Communication far and wide leads me to discover the freedom held within the phone. I can FaceTime my girlfriend and see her talk while laying in my memory foam bed. I can text my dad asking if I can get Taco Bell after work. The power of communication held within a small device stimulates the world to spread their voices from anywhere, from Australia to Canada.
As I conclude, the surfacing of cell phones indulges me throughout my everyday life. No matter where I am or what I am doing, I always have my iPhone to animate my day. I can watch Netflix and Tiktok when I need entertainment. I can look at pictures of my dog for a feeling of endearment. I can text, call, or FaceTime anyone when I am feeling isolated. The constant feeling of gratification and motivation from a simple yet complex cellular device will always fulfill any empty areas in my life.
