Slime Rancher is an adorable game following Beatrix Lebeau, the main character, as she follows notes from the ranch’s previous owner, Hobson Twillgers. Along the way, she discovers the Far Far Range’s residents, and all the species of slimes (And subspecies of Largos, both pure and combinations), whilst also learning more about herself. Slimes themselves are very interesting, with specific diets, vibrant colors and shapes (sometimes animals or objects), and even favorite foods! You can keep them small, or feed them a plort and make them largos! (a large slime made up of two different species. Ex, Pink Tabby largo) The latest updates even give each slime a new interchangable appearance! (Ex, Tiger Tabby slimes).

In Slime Rancher, you need to be able to manage your ranch when you adventure, whether you take short adventures and manage everything yourself, or indulge in week-long, quirky adventures while your drones (Yes, drones) take care of plorts and feedings. Challenges include dodging spikey, explosive, and radioactive cuties, the tarr, and using your available jetpack fuel to hop from broken bridges or islands to gain access to slime doors, which lead to new areas, new slimes, and new foods.

The game quality overall, is beautiful. The graphics are very clean, precise, and the slimes and other animals are all very expressive. There is still so much to do even when you discover all of Hobson’s notes, and find every location, puzzle sphere, slime door, largo,  and secret view point.

The music is very bubbly, uplifting, and filled with wonder, especially in the Ancient ruins. When the environment is relaxed, the music plays slower and softer, and when things start to heat up (like in the Glass Desert), the music gets deeper and more ambient. Then, when the desert is set ablaze, the music picks up and makes you feel energized, and ready for anything! The music even changes at night, becoming softer, calmer, and just overall makes you feel relaxed.

I give lots of respect to this game and its creators, and recommend it highly to anyone who loves cute things, having lots of fun adventures, and discovering new things at every turn. I love this game because of its adorable art style, constant updates, and expressive gameplay. I feel that the game creators definitely poured their hearts into it, and, though it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it will certainly bring a smile to your face.
