The Outsider has takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma--author S. E. Hinton's hometown and the site of her high school years, from which many of the events in the story are based.ts in the story are based. In the book the greasers are against the socs which consist of Steve, Bob, Tim, and randy. In oUTSIDER THE socs attack ponyboy and johnny are walking late and are jumped as bob drowns ponyboy and he loses cocenies johnny slashes or stab bob and kills him. Ponyboy and Johnny find Dally and are forced to move away and change their identity and appearance. Bobs death causes big problems between greasers and socs. Ponyboy tells socs fighting will change nothing and some socs change their minds about fighting.
