The House on Mango Street, written by Sandra Cisnero, is a book that I recommend you read because the author organizes it really well and it is really well written. It is a nice, easy quick reading book that doesn’t elaborate into too many details and it is short and sweet.

In this book, the main character, Esperanza, is a young girl who constantly moves from house to house, but dreams of this big beautiful place to call home. She is shaken back to reality when her family moves a final time, but it’s nothing like what she envisions. It is a sad, red, tiny house on Mango Street. Esperanza encounters many different people in her neighborhood such as her friends, Lucy and Rachel and learns things about each and every one of them. I enjoyed how each character and each setting was a different chapter and easy to keep track of.

The House on Mango Street is a book definitely worth reading and even if you don’t like it, it doesn’t hurt anything by reading it. It wouldn’t be a waste of time either, because it is really a short book.
