The story is about a family with girls and there lives as growing up and becoming teenagers and the effects these bring on there lives. At the same time the book’s strength is that it tells the story of a unique girl in a unique place.  A Mexican, American girl in the neighborhoods of Chicago whose life is focused not only on the changes in her body but also on her need to figure out how to maneuver in the broader world. She is meeting new people, making new friends, and getting new houses. There are a lot of changes going on in her life but the story tells about how shes deals with all of these and what the cause and effects are. The book is broken up into alot of different sections and it tells you about what each and everyday is like in the family.
