I want to start off by stating that I am not really a reader type, but this book had me hooked, let me explain to you why. I really liked how the author changed the characters, Bryce and Julianna, points of view from one chapter to the other. To explain that a little more in debt, the author created a pattern between both Bryce and Juli's points of views, basically going back and forth chapter after chapter. For example, “All I’ve ever wanted is for Juli Baker to leave me alone” (Draanen 1) chapter one. Also “The first day I met Bryce Loski, I flipped. Honestly, one look at him and I became a lunatic” (Draanen 11) chapter 2. I personally feel like the pattern helped me view a better picture of what is going on in both of their heads so the reader can build a better picture and also I found it really creative and helpful. The characterization on Juli's character is really strong because you start realizing how she’s so distinct from others in her grade level, but she doesn’t care because she is happy with who she is, her passions, and what she does. On the other hand, Bryce was one of those kids who just followed everyone else because he was afraid to be different, but once you go more in debt with the book his personality takes a drastic turn. I would recommend this book mostly to young girls because I feel like they’ll enjoy it more and also anyone who’s interested in young adult fiction and romantic comedy. Lastly, without giving away any spoilers, I really enjoyed reading this book because it was nice to read and learn with them along with the characters and see how they both change from the beginning to the end.
