I thought this book was a great book. The author did a great job on creating suspense and grabbing the reader's attention. There were a lot surprising twist throughout the story and the secret that they kept will get you thinking and wondering what really happen in Sycamore lake and why Ali’s mother doesn’t want her to go there and why is the photo torn and why is the letter “T” written in the back of the photo. When Ali goes to  the cottage at sycamore lake with her aunt and her cousin they meet this girl and she calls herself sissy and Ali finds something off about her, so she tries to find out more but nobody knows who she is or where she lives which makes you wonder who sissy really is and what does she want from them.. The author put really good detail in story and it was really easy to understand what was happening so she had really good plot structure. The theme of this story in my opinion will be to be honest.Dulcie and Claire learned that they should've said what really happen instead of keeping the secret for 30 years since it caused them lots of problems throughout the story and lots of guilt. Two quotes from this story that I liked are “The ghost is very sad and lonely. She wants to go home, but she’s down deep, deep, deep in the water. She’s been there so long, she’s just bones. No one knows where she is” (Hahn 26). The quote is when Emma (Ali’s 4 year old cousin) explains her drawing of a skeleton at the bottom of a lake and later explains that the skeleton is like her because she doesn’t have any friends but her cousin Ali which later explains why Emma is really trying to please sissy. Another quote is “sometimes nothing is the scariest thing of all” (Hahn 152). When Emma tells the waiter that she wasn’t scared to feed the seagulls the waiter told her that nothing scares her and that when Emma says that quote. would recommend this book to people who like to read ghost stories because it involves a ghost and has some suspense.
