In Brian’s Hunt by Gary Paulsen, you follow a young man by the name of Brian. A while back Brian survived a plane crash into the vast and what seemed like never ending wilderness. While he was stuck out there all alone for such a long time, he found himself, and even after being rescued he went back out… But what did he go back out for?

After surviving a plane crash prior to this adventure Brian heads back out into the forest. After canoeing down a river for a while he starts to hear a strange noise that sounds much like a wolf or coyote, but as he gets closer to the shore he realizes that it is actually a dog with a giant scar. Brian takes this dog in and gives it the medical attention it needs. But he just cannot figure out why a domestic dog would be out here, he is determined to find out. After following his instincts and clues he determines it was a scar caused by a bear that was on a killer rampage. The bear had killed some of a family and was looking for more. The “more” was Brian.

This book was extremely enjoyable because of the way it was written. The way the book was narrated was super enjoyable and attention grabbing. And the way everything was described in such detail just made it so you had to picture it in your mind. I also enjoyed the dog character. Even though dogs can’t talk or anything, it still seemed like there was a human bond between the dog and Brian. At some points I almost felt like I was Brian, diving into crazy adventures with the dog, because my dog and I sometimes go on little adventures into the woods. I can say this so many times but this book was amazing, Gary Paulsen just has a way of writing that makes it so it grabs you and it is so hard to put down once you get trapped in his world. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes adventure or just good books in general. You may want to be a little bit older because it has some graphic details sometimes.
