“Deadlines just aren’t real to me, unless I am staring one right in the face.” This is a quote from the famous series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. These are probably the best books I have read in a long while to be honest. I am very surprised with the Heroes of Olympus series, as it is very good. I had read the Lost Hero without even knowing he was going to make other books. This is why I had picked them up this year. I probably should’ve read the Lost Hero again but I hadn’t had enough time to do so. In the Heroes of Olympus my favorite book so far is the Mark of Athena because I think it is the most well written book out of all of them. I am reviewing The House of Hades by Rick Riordan, my first point is the characters and their background. The second point is the storyline, and the third point is the author.

The characters are great. Here is a list of them, who their parents are, and what their powers are: Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Leo Valdez, Frank Zhang, Hazel Levesque, Jason Grace, and Piper McLean. The first character is Percy Jackson, and he is technically the main character. His parents are Poseidon and Sally Jackson. Thus he is able to control water. The next character is Leo Valdez. He is the son of Hephaestus and Esperanza Valdez. He is able to summon fire and he has a magical toolbelt. The third character is Annabeth Chase and she is the Daughter of Athena and Frederick Chase. She has no particular powers but is very smart. Next we have Frank Zhang, Son of Ares and Emily Zhang. He has the power to shapeshift. Then we have Frank's girlfriend, Hazel Levesque. She is the daughter of Pluto and Marie Levesque. She has the power to control the underground like summoning gold bars and stuff like that. Next we have “the golden boy”, Jason Grace, son of Jupiter and Beryl Grace. He can summon wind and lightning and that Jazz. At last but not least, we have Piper McLean, daughter of Aphrodite and Hollywood star, Tristan McLean. She has charmspeak. What that does is when she talks to people, they do what she wants them to do. Why I said Percy is the main character technically, is because it switches throughout the story, which brings me to my second point, the storyline.

The storyline is like seven stories in one. The story changes every time with a character change. One minute it could be Leo’s story then BAM! It’s now Percy’s. I think this is a great improvement because there is always people splitting up and this is a great way to switch it up. It isn’t like Percy Jackson and the Olympians because that series is all about Percy. The story starts off with Percy and Annabeth plunging into Tartarus. Then they make their way through Tartarus throughout the story. Meanwhile the other Demi-Gods have their own problems. Khione the goddess of the snow has raided the Argo-2. Leo has gotten blasted to another island while Jason is frozen. Piper McLean is the only one left to fight her. Will she beat her, or will she and the rest of the crew perish? Read the series to find out. The crew’s main focus is to get to the other side of the Doors of Death. The author wrote this book very well which is my third point, the author himself.
           

Rick Riordan has written many books ranging from Percy Jackson and the Olympians to the 39 clues, which is another great series that is good. He has also written a lot of other series like Magnus Chase and the Kane Chronicles (which is also a good series). He is a very good writer and I encourage all of you reading this to go pick up some books by him because like I said, he is a very good writer. He was born and raised in San Antonio and actually wanted to become a guitarist, but we all know he didn’t. He is still the book writer that we have all known and come to love.

Now I have talked to you all about who the characters are, what are their powers, and who their parents are. Also I talked about the storyline and the Author. This book is amazing and I really hope more people read it because it is worth it to pick up a book every once and awhile and just read it and escape reality. Now in the beginning when Percy says his quote, I don’t agree with it. Then again his life is way different than mine so i can’t really judge that. This series is amazing and everyone should read it. My favorite book in this series is the Son of Poseidon. There is more to life than just games and stuff, there are also book's. So don’t be asking your parents all the time to buy you games, maybe ask for a book once in awhile.
