A Child Called It by David Pelzer
A child called it is an emotional roller coaster of a story. This book covers the abuse of one child. David recieved major abuse from his mother, she would play so called games, she did terrible things such as forcing him to sit on a hot stove, eating his own vomit, sleeping under the stairs, being submerged in ice cold water and was even stabbed. This story really hit me, I realized how brutal some children have it and that I should be very grateful for the life I have. Throughout the story we see David block out his emotions and take the pain, he did what he had to do to survive. David was haunted by his childhood everywhere he went, even in foster care his mother would still try to hurt his life. This story inspired me to want to make a difference in my community through helping abused children or people in bad situations. My mom and I volunteered at every womens place, a local home for women i children in terrible situations. I will never understand why people would ever physically or mentally abuse another person or animal or anything! Overall this story really showed the strength of a young boy and that anybody can get through anything no matter how hard.
