A Tale Dark & Grimm by Adam Gidwitz
“A Tale Dark & Grimm,” by Adam Gidwitz, is an excellent book. This book is a dark, suspenseful, and also humorous book about two siblings, Hansel and Gretel, whose quest is to save the Kingdom of Grimm. On their journey, they come across dragons, witches, warlocks, and even the devil. They walk out of their fairy tale, going into eight other fairy tales. As they continue on with their journey, they learn the truth about the tales and start to realize that they can control their own destinies.
Throughout the story, he shows us educational values, positive messages, and positive role models. Also, he shows types of figurative language such as many similes, metaphors, tone, and imagery. The reader learns educational values because they learn more about the evolution of fairy tales. An example of a positive message is when Hansel and Gretel’s heads get cut off by their parents. Their parents asked for forgiveness. This is just like when in real life your parents ask you for forgiveness, you would probably not want to forgive them. Gidwitz stresses that it is very important that you should work through the problem. Hansel and Gretel are huge examples of positive role models. Since their parents hurt them so badly, they depend on each other. Their loyalty helps them overcome very hard times and gives them the intelligence to help other people with problems as well.
