He’s basically alone. His dad is dead, his mom is in rehab, his uncle doesn’t care, his girlfriend disappeared and he just started attending to a brand new school. Mickey Bolitar’s life couldn’t get any worse. All he had to do was walk down the street in order for his life to be completely turned around. A figure named “Bat Lady” told Mickey that his father was still alive. Not only was he now scared that the town’s myth was real, but what if she was right? He had seen his dad die right in front of him after the car accident. All he wanted to do now was find his girlfriend and see if Bat Lady was right. As the days went on in school with all the bullies and trying to make new friends, he and a bigger girl named Emma,who everyone called Ema, teamed up together to solve this mystery. So, they decide to break into Bat Lady’s house to find out more about her. As the days went on, Mickey finds out that men from her house have been stalking him as well as finding out more about Ashley's life. He soon made another friend named Arthur who he started to call “Spoon”. Then, Mickey starts finding out more about who his girlfriend really was and what she was doing with her life. The story ends with a cliffhanger wanting not only Mickey, but the reader in shock and curiosity to find out more.

In my opinion, this book was very well written. I loved the suspense as well as how every problem Mickey had all tied in together. Every clue that was included into the story left me at the edge of my seat, wanting to find out more. As Mickey went on his adventure to find the people he loved, he goes through many hardships as well. Instead of telling his uncle the truth about where he was going and why, he only told Ema and Spoon who were helping him. Mickey also learns more about his own family. His father was exactly like him, his uncle was secretive, and his mother was a mess. He deals with loss, trying to find forgiveness, and dealing with feeling alone. This story will leave you shocked and curious about what will happen next.
