If I stay

If I stay by Gayle Forman, is a very interesting and suspenseful read. The author uses many different strategies to make the book more intriguing, while jumping from pastime to current time constantly throughout the book. The author uses the love a family has for each other to make the book stronger, and more relatable. The main character, Mia, is described as a beautiful young girl who has a talent for the cello. It all begins in the music room at school, where Mia met the love of her life, Adam. As their relationship grew stronger through ups and downs, they were meant to be. Mia was a very panicked girl who was always worried about Adam, in the hospital bed, Mia pondered in her head, “Adam is the only one I really want to see. I wish I knew where he was so I could try to go there. I have no idea how he’s going to find out about me.”
The author uses similes to paint a picture in your head, and give more detail, “The blood from my chest has seeped through my shirt, skirt, and sweater, and is now pooling like paint drops on the virgin snow.”   Although this book may be confusing because of the constant switch in time, it is a very exciting read in which I recommend. I enjoyed reading this book because of tone the writer uses and the original word choice, “Soon the nurses are joined by a bleary-eyed doctor, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, which are ringed with dark circles.” While this quote describes a man whom seems to be tired, the author gives you a very detailed visual in your head as if you could picture the guy in real life. The author does an amazing job using rhetorical devices smoothly throughout the novel to keep the reader engaged. I would recommend this book to mainly females just because it is a very dramatic book, as well as a love story which seems to be more of a girl thing. This book seems to be targeted toward teenagers as well as moms who like a dramatic love story. Overall the book was fascinating and grips your mind.
