The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, is an excellent book describing the lives of African-American maids in the 1960s.The Help briefly, is about the horrific lives of two black maids named Minny and Aibileen. However, Skeeter comes along and they become closer. Skeeter is not your ordinary white female in the 1960s, she supports integration and equal rights. As time passes, these three get to know each other. Eventually, they write a book with help from other maids that is made for a good cause. The journey of these three is just mind blowing. Kathryn Stockett's thrilling read is one you cannot put down.

The Help is a third person narration taking place in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960s. The historical fiction by Kathryn Stockett is primarily about two African- American maids and their lives down in the South. Their names are Minny and Aibileen. A substantial amount of African Americans had very tough lives during the 1960s, especially in the South. You earn very little, you are accused of many things because of your color, and you are treated like a second class citizen. However, Skeeter, a young white female writer comes into Minny and Aibileens life. Aibileen and Minny start out by helping Skeeter out with her maid column in the local newspaper but slowly they begin to bond. Skeeter decides to write a book about the their town and the local maids. The Chief Editor tells Skeeter she needs to have maids quotes in the book. So Skeeter asks Minny and Aibileen to help out with the book. First they disagree because it is risky but then they decide to juxtapose with Skeeter. They still needed more maids but the others refused. However, a maid is arrested by Ms. Hilly and the other maids decide to pinch in and help. Even though the job is risky Minny, Aibileen and Skeeter are willing to take a chance and make a change once and for all.

The Help was one of the most bombastic books that I have ever read. Kathryn Stockett captures the thoughts and actions of both sides. First she would explain the thoughts and actions of the maids then, the thoughts and actions of the white wives. When Ms. Stockett releases a new book I will surely read and recommend them to others. I would like others to feel what I felt when I read her book.

Kathryn Stockett's thrilling read is one you cannot put down. Kathryn Stockett opened my eyes and made me realize how awful life was in the 1960s. Like the review on the front says "If you are going to read one book, this the one"(NPR).
