The book Unbroken takes away everything you thought you knew about human will. Mostly occurring in the Pacific Theater during World War II, Louie Zamperini finds many different ways of survival. He has to push through these hard obstacles. From being a criminal in his child and teen years, to an Olympic runner, Louie's whole life story is in this third-person narrative book about a very adventurous man in this amazing biography. Laura Hillenbrand's unique writing style is noticed throughout the whole story.
Louie Zamperini was a criminal when he was a kid. Stealing, fighting, and even drinking lead to running for a long period of time to get away from getting in trouble. After awhile, Louie's body started getting used to this and the running and moving became easier for him. His brother, Pete, noticed this, and put him to good work, training Louie as a track runner. After breaking several U.S. Records, Louie went to the Olympics in 1932. After the Olympic, Louie looked for the next Olympics in Tokyo. While Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Louie joined the USAAC. Around his training, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and the United States the declared war. Becoming a bombardier, Louie flew several heart-stopping missions before crashing on a search and rescue mission which was Louie's real test of survival began.
I personally loved this story! I found this book interesting because you get a great story of survival with a ton of history that tops the cake. At times in the book Laura Hillenbrand goes into elicit detail that goes a little bit off topic and gets hard to concentrate on the book. However still was hard to put down. With all the rest of the action, this book easily overcame these details.
Now that I read Unbroken I think that I will check out more of Laura Hillenbrand's books, maybe Seabiscut. I encourage you to read this book because it has a great storyline and lots of action that gets you hooked on the book instantly. With this great bait, you can easily read this in one day, because of how hard it is to put down. A very good book by Laura Hillenbrand and 5/5 stars.
