The book "A Child Called IT", by Dave Pelzer is an amazing novel that I would recommend to all. "A Child Called IT" really brought Dave Pelzer's tragic story to life. Dave does such a great job at making a suspenseful mood that really gives the story an amazing aspect. The description he uses in each chapter is marvelous and keeps the audience wanting more.
This traumatic story begins in the 1960's and finally comes to a halt in the early 1970's. Dave's story took place in Daly City, California in a normal suburban neighborhood. This book tells the tragic story of an innocent little boy named Dave, who had to suffer through terrible beatings and abuse everyday of his life. The monster that inflicted this pain on him was his own mother! The one person in your life who you should be able to count on and love would starve her own child days on end. She began to address him as It and always called him bad boy when Dave had done nothing wrong. Dave's father who wasn't home much since the beatings started was a terrible coward who always gave Dave false hope and in the end did nothing to help innocent little Dave.
This book gets Dave's message across really well. He vividly described every sick, twisted game him, and all the emotions he felt. However, at times I felt this book was poorly written. Sometimes his word choice would begin to bore me and he used to many details in unnecessary places. I really enjoyed the dialogue between the characters though and can't believe this could really take place. It's amazing to see what people are capable of.
"A Child Called IT" was an inspiring novel about a little boys fight for survival,  and water works are a guarantee if you read this book. This book is full of page turners and I never wanted to put it down. It was amazing to watch the characters change and to watch Dave grow stronger every day. I rated it 4.5 out of 5 stars because it was a great book but the word choice was sometimes boring. Overall this book was very satisfying and I can't wait to read the other two.
