If I Stay is a beautiful novel about a young girl Mia who has to make the biggest decision she's ever had to make: is her life worth living now that she has no family? It could get confusing at times, but the overall story had me on edge wanting more. I enjoyed the book mostly because the author made the reader connect to the personalities of the characters. Knowing the characters made it more interesting because you wanted to know what was going to happen to them. The best parts of the book was when Mia, the narrator, would tell a memory of hers with another character. These flashbacks are what made the reader feel sympathy for Mia. Knowing she was in that situation added feeling to the whole story. It was heartbreaking to know the main character was dying. I liked how the author told the most important part of the story at the very beginning and put her in the car accident instantly. The accident was the part of the book that grabbed my attention and made me want to finish it. The book was good because of the plot and the instant shock at the beginning.
If I could change one aspect of the book, it would be to extend the length or change the ending. Making the book longer or adding a different ending could improve or make it more of an attention grabber. I felt the book was really short and it ended too quickly which was one of my only dislikes. In spite of the fact that it was short it told an amazing story from beginning to end. Although sad, the book did include a love story which touched my heart making me feel bad for her boyfriend. I would recommend this book to women 16-20 years old. It is mainly for readers who like sad or shocking stories, or who enjoy a sad love story. The book If I Stay by Gayle Forman, was overall an amazing novel and I would definitely recommend this book to others.
