Colulmbine by Dave Cullens
The book Columbine by Dave Cullen was very informative. When I was reading the book it surprised me how little I know about the tragedy. The author did really well describing the twisted minds of Eric and Dylan. This book provides deep details about the events leading up to the shooting, the shooting itself, and the events after it. I think that Cullen’s did a very great job at capturing at least a fraction of the pain that the families of the thirteen who died in the tragedy. He talked about families of the thirteen before the shooting and how their stories before the tragedy. When describing how they were affected after the shooting it really showed how different the methods are for people to cope in such situations. The way Dave Cullen’s writes the story really shows how much the community and the world were affected. It talked about the pain, fear, anger, and doubt that everyone felt towards each other. The author did a good job on the emotions people felt. Dave Cullen’s profiles the killers and talks about their lives at home and school. I like how Dave Cullen’s talks about media’s role in the story of Columbine. The thought of the people’s confusion on this whole thing, and the media is their only source of information really hadn’t occurred to me before. The author does a good job at really showing how the media cannot be the most reliable resource. With theories on who did it including jocks and the Trench Coat Mafia it seems weird to the most of the world believed it because of the media. Dave Cullen’s deep research and devotion to finding the truth and all the aspects of Columbine make it truly remarkable. His detailed accounts throughout the years of the tragedy, and his stories of life before and after the tragedy are very deep. This book’s structure and how informative it is makes a terrifying, but good read.
