All of them.

The book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer was truly inspiring to me. Christopher McCandless did what he wanted to do to make him happy and he didn’t let anyone get in his way. He didn’t worry about what could happen or what has happened; he lived in the now. He had a positive attitude about the journey he took to get to Alaska to fulfill his dream and it takes a lot of courage to do so.

This inspired me because I have a hard time living in the present moment and staying positive about what I want to do in the future to fulfill my passion. I don’t usually do what makes me happy, but what makes others happy. I tend to care more about them then I do myself. Chris didn’t care what other people thought when it came to what he wanted to do, but I have a bad habit with reflecting on what others think of me and my choices. After I read this book I had a better attitude on how I should stay positive and stop caring about other’s opinions of me.

Chris had just graduated from Emory University in Atlanta when he left for his trip. He didn’t tell anyone where he was going, which was the best course for him. He left in the summer of 1990 and traveled to a variety of destinations around the United States until he got to his final point in 1992, Alaska. He met a lot of people on the way, and not one of them had anything negative to say about him. He greatly impacted a lot of people because what he was doing and the way he told his stories was so moving. Chris knew that what he was doing could’ve been dangerous, but that didn’t stop him from doing what he loved. He was a very independent guy. He liked to do his own thing and didn’t like receiving help on anything. Once he started something, it had to be finished, and that’s an attitude of someone who is real passionate about what they want.

Krakauer did a fantastic job writing this story. However, it was a bit confusing to read at first since it kept jumping from different time frames and talking about different topics, but it was easy to get used to. He went very in depth with what Chris and similar characters did on their crazy adventures, and it felt as if I were there with them the entire time. It had a nice amount of suspense, and It was hard for me to the put the book down. This story is definitely worth the read.
