This book takes an interesting look on the life back on the 60¬’s. The book follows the point of a fourteen year old named Ponyboy. He is one of the poor kids that live in a rundown neighborhood. The most memorable of the book was the war against the greasers and the preps. The greasers are the middle class to poor residence of the town, and the preps are the rich social class of the town. Both the Greasers and the Preps don’t know the hardships of each other’s life style. Ponyboy had interesting encounters while he was running away from his family.
The war between the two social classes don’t solve anything. It only made things worse between the two. A couple of the main characters die in the little battle and one dies from a past encounter before the war. The book goes back to the normal days of Ponyboy in his high school. He is failing his English class and has to write a story. And the book ends where the book started.
This is a story for those who like realistic nonfiction. For those who like out of proportion books this is not for you. I enjoyed this book and thought it was good for kids now days too.
The book started out very slow, then it was well paced for about five chapters and then it was too fast. The pacing in my opinion could have been a lot better. Although it is one of the best books out there, it needs improvements.
