The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie is a fantastic book.  The whole time I was reading this book I was laughing out-loud. The main character, of whom I will leave anonymous like the book will in the first few chapters was quite the comic. The way he illustrated his experiences were just hilarious and exciting.
The story was put together well by Sherman Alexie. The main character was tired of his same old school on an American Indian Reservation “Rez”. in Washington State. The rez. consisted of two things, alcohol and poverty. The only positive thing on the rez. was the main character’s best friend Rowdy these two are too funny when they are together ¨I thought you were on suspension, dickwad.¨ (which is Rowdy’s way of saying ¨I’m happy you’re here.¨)Things turned negative quickly after the main character decided to leave the rez. school and go to a rich, all white school.
The rest of the book is packed with adventure, comedy, sorrow, and hope. Eventually after digging a little deeper into this book, I started to feel like I was the main character. I felt as if I was feeling his pain, his happiness, and his sense of humor. I honestly judged this book by it’s cover, because the cover doesn’t look like the way the story turned out to be.
I would recommend this book to people in their high school years, since there was a lot of profanity and obscene remarks made between characters. One of the reasons that I thought that it was a good book for me, was because most of the pages had illustrations on them. This kept me alive and excited about what I was going to see next. You would not expect some of the things that happened in this story. If I enjoyed this book then I think you will like it too.
