Moby Dick by Herman Melville
Ishmael is a young American living in the mid-nineteenth century in Manhattan who one day decides to take a three year voyage to New Bedford on a ship called the Pequod. Not aware of the captains for this adventure motive for adventure he is dragged into a whale hunt for Moby Dick the albino sperm whale. Ahab is the captain of the ship and is obsessed with the whale for revenge because of a previous voyage where it took his leg where it took his leg. Ahab plays a major role in the book as he makes theme stand out vengeance, “Vengeance on a dumb brute! Cried Starbuck that simply smote thee from blindest instinct! Madness!”(pg. 38-39). Later in the Ahab finds the whale, and confront it leading in to a furious battle and his death. After the battle the ship was destroyed, Ishmael was the only survivor. He was then rescued by another whale ship called the Rachel. The book itself takes you with them on their voyage and is so realistic with well-developed characters and an amazing background story for all of them. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a thrilling adventure.
