 The 5th Wave

After the 1st wave only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, just one rule applies: trust no one. The book I read this summer was The 5th Wave. The author of this book is Rick Yancy. Rick Yancy writes this book with a lot of variety. He adds emotions such as love, pain, anger, and sarcasm. I recommend this book to anyone that loves science fiction. I absolutely loved this book and was hooked from the very first page.

The 5th Wave is narrated by Cassie, Evan, Sam, and Ben. In the book, Sam is sometimes referred to as Nugget or Sammy and Ben is referred to as Zombie. The book is mainly about a young girl named Cassie who is all alone and is running from them. Running from the creatures that have destroyed humanity. Running from the creatures that only look and act like humans but aren't humans. Cassie knows that staying alone is her best shot at surviving this new world. Cassie knows that she has to stay alone until she meets Evan Walker. Evan is a mysterious boy with a shady past. But Evan might be Cassie's only hope for finding her brother Sammy.

There are many settings in this book. The main settings are the cabin, woods, and Camp Haven. Cassie usually narrates the parts in the cabin and the woods. Ben and Sammy narrate about Camp Haven.

The author's emotion in this book is very different for every character. A lot of events narrated by Cassie are said in sarcasm. The events narrated by Sammy are very emotional because he is only a six year old.  When Ben narrated the events his voice was very carefree. The author narrated this book in different tones so the book seemed more real and lively. This book is mainly for written for young adults. It's mostly for ages 12 and up. The vocabulary in The 5th Wave is slightly advanced. Most of the vocabulary is suitable for young adults. In this book, I thought that the characters handled the situations realistically. There are a lot of plots twists so it may be a little confusing.

Overall I really liked this book. It was very intense and action packed. It has plenty of drama and emotion. I recommend this book to anybody who is looking for a fast paced book.
