The Fault in Our Stars by John Green was an inspirational, emotional book filled with the perfect blend of sadness, happiness, and love. This book was filled with all the aspects a good young adult literature book needs. Even though it messed with my emotions, I still believe that it was one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s as if a big melting pot of emotions was poured into this one book.
TFIOS was about a 16-year old girl named Hazel Lancaster who has been fighting cancer for the past three years. When her mom pushes her to go to (In her mind, drop-dead boring) Support Group, she is determined not to enjoy it. But when she meets Augustus Waters, her whole life changes. They fit together like puzzle pieces, made for each other. Together, they try to overcome all the obstacles life throws at them, even though it’s hard.
At first, I didn’t think that this would be a good book to read. Then people started recommending it me, and I tried to read it. I was hooked! TFIOS was really hard to put down, probably because of the moral of the story. I believe it was, “Be grateful for what you have”. I think this because in the book, many different types of loss are felt, whether it’s a person, a body part, or a girlfriend. Also, it was very easy to understand. This captivating love story will hook any type of reader, whether young or old, but I would recommend it for kids ages 13 and up.
