BOOK REVIEW

I read the book Unwholly by Neal Shusterman, a science fiction novel. The second book in the series, Unwind. This book is definitely worth the pages. This is a thriller, something that the plot just sends shivers down your spine. This future society could happen and that’s what makes this novel so skin crawling.

This is the sequel to Unwind, the society where parents can sign up their kid for unwinding if they are troubled or they just don’t want their kid. They are taken away to a “Chop Shop”, where they are literally chopped up by surgeons but don’t technically die. The child’s ‘parts’ are given to people in need of that part or to people that want something new. The part is still the unwinded child’s body part, if the person got their brain, they would have all of the kid’s memories and flashbacks, the part does what it wants.Connor Lassiter, the main character from Unwind now runs the graveyard, where they save and take kids that are about to be unwound with his partners Lev and Risa. Cam, another main character in Unwholly, is the government's idea of perfect. Cam is entirely made up from the best parts available from other unwinds and struggles with figuring out if he actually exists or has a soul. Cam’s road to perfect is crossed with Connor’s, Risa’s and Lev’s and all of their fates rely on each other.

I find this whole plot disturbing yet thrilling and intriguing especially because this society might actually develop someday in the future. The book keeps you on edge the entire time and keeps you up all night reading and thinking, wondering about their fates. The idea and plot of the whole thing reels you in and is easily one of my favorites. Most of the characters are relateable If you like science fiction and a new intriguing series, try Unwind. I recommend this series for anyone that wants a new book to keep them reading.
